Colors of the Cove
“Colors of the Cove”
12x12 Acrylic Painting on Canvas
Saturday, October 25th from 9AM - 12PM
McArthur Pavilion, Maryville College
Class Description
This class is for ages 15 and up.
Come meet new art friends and join me for a 3 hour painting session at the beautiful McArthur Pavilion on the Maryville College campus! I’m currently working on creating colorful scenes from Cade’s Cove, and I’d love to invite some friends along in the process. You will complete a 12x12 painting on canvas and get to take it home.
What to Expect
Part 1 - Value + Sketching
We will observe a scene from Cades Cove in both color and black and white, discussing values and the importance of them in your artwork. Using transfer paper, each artist will transfer their image to the canvas and begin applying paint using one color to block in the three main values - dark, medium and light.
Part 2 - Color + Mark-Making
We will discuss color theory and how to mix colors using a limited palette. I’ll share inside tips on how to make the colors really sing, and how to achieve harmonious color throughout. We will paint one section of the image at a time, using a variety of brushes, marks and insider tips!
Part 3 - Flow
This is the part of the class, about halfway in, where I begin to step back from group instruction and start to walk the room, helping each person individually as you enter the flow stage! Some may feel led to try a new color in their sky, or add in a small figure, or make other artistic selections of their choice. Others may feel more comfortable sticking to their original photo inspiration. Both approaches are welcome here!
Music and a light snack + beverage will be provided! Please inform me if you have any allergies.
